Main Actions
Main Actions
The objectives of the project will be achieved by combining the results of the following actions, which will be developed over time according to the schedule in the Gantt chart above.
ACTION B.1: Design of a dynamic LCA+LCC+SLCA tool
This action represents the starting point of the project and it consists to develop a new approach to the production of ceramics tiles, based on the criteria of sustainability. For this purpose, we will design, implement and validate a dynamic assessment system integrating the tools to assess environmental (LCA), economic (LCC), and social (SLCA) impact.
Beneficiary responsible for implementation: University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
ACTION B.2: Customization of the ERP module
The aim of this action will be to structure an appropriate database on the existing ERP that can serve for the collection and analysis inventory of the impacts assessment. In addition, we will have to implement the simplified calculation system developed in action B1 in the ERP, ensuring that impact assessments are carried out whenever there is a variation in the data base. In this way, the impact assessment system will operate in a dynamic way by becoming an integral part of the quality control of materials and processes.
Beneficiary responsible for implementation: Gresmalt Group
ACTION B.3: Design of materials and processes for sustainable ceramic tiles
The dynamic software LCA-LCC-SLCA developed in Action B.1 will be tested to verify its effectiveness and
efficiency, through the determination of the environmental and economic impacts in order to establish the
starting point from the current production of Gresmalt. The characterization of the raw materials and ceramic mixtures will be performed by University of Modena end Reggio Emilia in action B.5, strictly linked with this action.
Beneficiary responsible for implementation: Gresmalt Group
ACTION B.4: Prototyping of sustainable ceramic tiles
The development program of this action provides the scale transition from laboratory tests to the preindustrialization of the output of the previous actions. In particular, they will manufacture the prototypes of the new line of ceramic tiles produced according the sustainability criteria.
Beneficiary responsible for implementation: Gresmalt Group
ACTION B.5: Verification of technological conformity
This action intends to perform the test and analysis on the green and final products, with the aim of defining their chemical-physical, mineralogical, thermal and mechanical properties. This action is intended also to test the safety and functionality of the final products prior the distribution to stakeholders.
Beneficiary responsible for implementation: University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
ACTION B.6: Integration of LCA, LCC and SLCA for sustainable decision making model
This action aims to integrate the environment dimension, developed in action B1, in the dynamic instrument for the impact assessment, with socio-economic variables needed to increase the company’s competitiveness in a context of sustainable development. For this purpose, we will identify the relationships that connect materials and processes with the organization and its stakeholders (internal and external).
Beneficiary responsible for implementation: Rey Juan Carlos University
ACTION B.7: Replicability of the dynamic model and transferability to another type of production
The innovative method applied on the ceramic products studied in the project, at the end of project, will be considered by the proponents as innovative procedure almost ready for market launch. Thanks to its universality, the new operational tool will be able to be used by the largest number of companies in several industrial sector (not only ceramic) all over the EU countries.
Beneficiary responsible for implementation: Gresmalt Group
ACTION C.1: Monitoring of the impact of project actions
The environmental and socio-economic impact on territory and stakeholders involved during the project will
be monitored and evaluated and the effect of the actions will be assessed. The goal is to verify the impact of these actions on a heavily industrialized area with a high environmental criticality. It is expected that the project will not only allow design ceramic tiles at greater sustainability index but also suggests a possible new way to improve overall environmental conditions of the area.
Beneficiary responsible for implementation: University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
ACTION D.1: Communication and Dissemination
The main objective of the dissemination activity is to spread awareness about the results obtained through
the project, as well as enhancing consciousness towards environmental issues. Moreover, particular emphasis
shall be placed on both achieved and achievable social economical results to make the project more
appealing to the industrial sector, while increasing the possibility of replicating and transferring project
results.
Beneficiary responsible for implementation: Gresmalt Group
ACTION E.1: Overall project management
The scope of this action is to plan and organize the activities required towards project goals and preparing all the technical, financial and administrative documentation to be submitted to EASME and the external monitoring team.
Beneficiary responsible for implementation: Gresmalt Group
